Rouladen, one of Germany’s most well-known and mouthwatering dishes, is made of beef rouladen stuffed with bacon, onions, mustard, and pickles before being cooked and boiled in the finest gravy possible. Popular Beef Rouladen is a few stages long, but it’s worth it!
Ingredients:
- 8 slices bacon
- ¼ cup Dijon mustard
- 8 (4 oz) pieces of round steak
- 2 tsp. paprika
- ½ cup minced onion
- 2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 (12 oz) can of beef broth
- 3 tbsp. canola oil
- ¼ cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 ¼ cups water
Instruction:
- Toss onion, paprika, salt, and pepper equally over the steaks. Spread 1/2 tbsp. Mustard over one side of each steak. Place a bacon slice on each piece, roll the steaks like jelly rolls and fasten them with toothpicks.
- Cook beef rouladen in a pan with heated canola oil over medium heat until browned. Bring to a boil after adding broth and water. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until vegetables are soft.
- Remove the meat roulade and add the strained broth mixture to the skillet. The sauce will thicken in 2 to 3 minutes if the cornstarch and water batter are smooth. Slowly add the cornstarch mixture into the pan while swirling constantly. Return the rolls to the sauce, stir in the sour cream, and serve instantly.
